Admission exam date: for the bachelor's degree programme “Chemistry for Science” May / June 2024
Characteristics of the programme
The objectives of the study programme “Chemistry for Science” can be formulated in the following points:
- To introduce students to the basic academic disciplines of chemistry, i.e. in particular inorganic, organic, physical and analytical chemistry. The primary objective is for students to acquire as much information as possible and establish a solid knowledge base in the above-mentioned fields, whereas an integral part of this is for them to make important connections between the individual fields. Emphasis is placed on independent problem solving, which will lead to development of the ability to analyse and solve the given problem independently.
- Theoretical tuition is complemented by an extensive system of practical tuition, where emphasis is placed on acquiring sufficient erudition while mastering various experimental activities, namely synthetic, separation and analytical operations.
- To introduce students to current scientific developments, especially in the above-mentioned fields at the faculty, with the aim of their gradual active involvement in this research, already during their bachelor’s degree studies.
- To educate superbly equipped students who will continue their studies at the postgraduate level, where they will participate in resolution of research problems in their chosen field of study.
What will you learn?
A graduate of the “Chemistry for Science” study programme can be characterised as a student with a solid command of the basic building blocks of chemistry (i.e. inorganic, organic, physical and analytical chemistry) with a sufficient overview of their interrelation and use. Graduates will be very well equipped in terms of experimental chemistry due to the great emphasis placed on laboratory instruction. Their interaction with specific research problems resolved within the faculty at the beginning of their studies will enable them to further develop during their master’s or subsequently their doctoral studies.
Your career prospects
The study programme is clearly designed and structured in such a way as to ensure that students are motivated to continue their studies in related master’s and doctoral study programmes. After completing this three-year study programme, students will have a solid foundation allowing them to succeed in their further studies in the then already specialised fields of chemistry and, in particular, to further develop as individuals capable of solving scientific research problems at a high level. This will enable them to continue their careers either in academia as teachers or researchers, or to engage in research and development in the private sector after completing their postgraduate studies.
