Lipidomic profiling of patients with cardiovascular diseases

Provider: Grantová agentura ČR
Programme: Standardní projekty (řešení od 1.1.2011)
Implementation period: 01.01.11 - 31.12.14
Workplace: Fakulta chemicko-technologická - Katedra analytické chemie
Investigator: Holčapek Michal
Description:
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a very serious healthy problem of current western population with the upmost importance due to a high level of mortality or permanent disability. The goal of our project is to find differences in lipidomic profiles of plasma and erythrocyte membranes among selected groups of healthy volunteers without and with obesity and patients with selected types of CVDs. The full range of modern analytical techniques common in lipidomics will be also used in our project, such as gas chromatography - flame ionization detection for the fatty acid profiling (routine technique), the flow injection analysis coupled with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry for intact lipids fingerprinting (modern approach) and optimized ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry using various separation modes (novel approach) for the detailed characterization of differences in lipidomes of healthy volunteers vs. patients with CVDs. Quantitative lipidomic data will be also processed using statistical tools, e.g., principal component analysis, to find new lipid biomarkers of selected CVDs with the possible future application in the early clinical diagnostics.
