Ten-vertex dicarbaborane molecular assemblies via alkylation

Provider: Grantová agentura ČR
Programme: Standardní projekty
Implementation period: 01.01.16 - 31.12.18
Workplace: Fakulta chemicko-technologická - KOAnCh/věda z MŠMT
Investigator: Růžičková Zdeňka
Description:
The main objective is to extend alkylation strategies into the area of 10-vertex dicarbaborane skeletons with the aim of constructing molecular shapes that would contain organized globular molecules arranged according to the planned design and molecular sequences. Basic carborane building units have been originated by the applicant?s group over the last period of time. There is a broad selection of 10-vertex dicarbaborane skeletons to be used in this project as never examined substrates. Such molecules will be interconnected via alkylation or cross-coupling approaches into desired molecular shapes, dimers (homo or hetero), alkylene-linked carboranes or into aesthetically appealing molecular stars. It is also expected that a representative series of new globular molecules or their assemblies in which carborane core is protected by an organic sheath will be generated by targeted methylation or alkylation. The compounds will represent a new genre of molecular architecture and are expected to be of potential use in liquid crystals technology, medicine or molecular biology.
