Chemistry of globular shaped hydrocarbons with boron?cage scaffolding inside the methylated sheath

Provider: Grantová agentura ČR
Programme: Standardní projekty
Implementation period: 01.01.19 - 31.12.21
Workplace: Fakulta chemicko-technologická - Katedra obecné a anorganické chemie
Investigator: Růžičková Zdeňka
Description:
The main objective is to continue permethylation or persubstitution strategies in the area of 10- vertex dicarbaborane skeletons, extend them to other selected carborane and heteroborane systems and to take initial steps towards breaking the reactivity barrier of these extremely stable and inert compounds, one of the main targets being the isolation of derivatives suitable for constructing molecular shapes arranged according to the planned design. There is a broad selection of ?Czech-originated? 9-12 vertex borane compounds to be used in this project as never examined substrates. The main objective of the project will now consist in the exploration of essential reactivity of the title globular compounds, both in the exoskeletal or endoskeletal reaction sphere. The reactions will be focused namely on derivatization of the surrounding BCH3 units, cage opening/cage degradation, and metal incorporation procedures. The compounds represent a new genre of molecular architecture of great future potential, for example in medicine, molecular biology or liquid crystals technology.
