Description:
The project proposes construction and investigation of novel group of organic materials called Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs). In contrast to common linear pi-conjugated molecules, these two-dimensional materials possess significantly enhanced and pronounced optoelectronic, magnetic and catalytic properties. The project focuses on new set of organic materials that will significantly affect the fields such as (non)linear optics, catalysis, environmental protection. The preparation of conjugated COFs includes Knoevenagel or aldol condensation between variously arranged aldehyde and a derivative with active methylene group. We propose a modular strategy that allows variation of the cavity size and shape as well as donor/acceptor arrangement of the particular knots. In this way, we can easily modulate the intramolecular charge-transfer and the resulting fundamental properties. The main collaborative idea of the project is construction of COFs in the group of Czech PI (F. Bureš) and their subsequent thorough investigation and perspective applications by the team of Indian PI (S. Bhattacharya).
