Description:
The aim of this project is a product with new microorganisms which can inhibit the growth of Fusarium fungi or exhibit the process of biotransformation of trichothecene mycotoxins. The isolated microorganisms will be used in the process of malting barley in order to improve its quality in terms of decreasing both the level of concentration of trichothecene mycotoxins in barley and the degree of contamination by Fusarium fungi. The result of this study will be a new strategy of barley protection during the malting process that is also environmentally friendly. Additionally, the project includes an evaluation of microbial activity against Fusarium poae. This fungus has been recognized as a significant pathogen of wheat and barley in the Czech Republic due to climate change in recent years.
