Use of microalgae to reduce the amount of antibiotics, resistant bacteria and resistance genes in digestate from agricultural biogas plants

Provider: Technologická agentura České republiky
Programme: Prostředí pro život - 7. veřejná soutěž
Implementation period: 01.04.24 - 30.06.26
Workplace: Fakulta chemicko-technologická - Oddělení chemického inženýrství
Investigator: Palarčík Jiří
Description:
1. Find out the types and concentrations of veterinary antibiotics in the raw digestate, in the culture medium for the cultivation of microalgae produced on the basis of digestate and in the liquid effluent from the photobioreactor. Compare values for digestates from different biogas plants. The same for the presence of resistant bacteria and the genes for antibiotic resistance. 2. Find a suitable digestate-based nutrient medium recipe for cultivating suitable microalgae. 3. Find suitable microalgae with maximum decontamination ability and ensure high biomass yield. 4. Develop digestate processing technology using microalgae cultivation with an emphasis on minimizing the above-mentioned contaminants. The resulting biomass is expected to be used in the process of anaerobic digestion.
