eng 2-Heterosubstituted Camphor-imidazoline Ligands: Synthesis, Characterization, Electronic Tuning and Application in Asymmetric Catalysis In 2000, Busacca et al. reported on the stereoselective synthesis of (1R,2S,3R,4S) camphordiamine 1. [1] Several, already known, chiral 1,2-diamines such as 1,2 diphenylethan-1,2-diamine or cyclohexane-1,2-diamine were utilized as the backbone of a large number of chiral heterocyclic ligands. Since that, it seems worthwile to extend this series on such easily accessible camphor-1,2-diamine and attempt to apply it in the synthesis of heterocyclic N-ligands as well. This year, we have reported on the synthesis of annulated camphor-imidazoles 2 starting directly from the (1R,4S) camphorquinone. [2] Having established this synthetic pathway, we turned our attention to the camphor-imidazolines 3 as the dihydro analogs to 2. Starting from 1, we have synthesized a library of 2-heterosubstituted derivatives 3 varying in the nature of R1 and R2, respectively. The enantioselectivity of such ligands has been examined in asymmetric Henry reaction. imidazolines; camphor; asymmetric catalysis
