eng Vitamin C Plasma Level in Selected Groups of Elderly Patients Plasma concentrations of vitamin C were compared in senior patients (over 65 years) with diabetes mellitus, acute myocardial infarction and lipid metabolism disorder and control group. Seniors in the Czech population were proved to be in mild shortage of vitamin C. Remarkably low level of this vitamin was detected in the group of patients with myocardial infarction. This finding is in accordance with negative correlation of vitamin C level with risk of myocardial infarction and confirms the positive effect of vitamin C on development of atherosclerosis. ascorbic acid, HPLC, free radicals, diabetes mellitus, myocardial infarction
