eng Dilatometric and Positron Anihilation Lifetime Spectroscopic Studies on Amorphous and Polycrystalline Selenium Length dilatometry (L-DIL) measurements and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) studies on both the amorphous selenium (a-Se) and the polycrystalline selenium (pc-Se) over wide temperature ranges have been carried out with aim to compare the relevant quantities as a function of temperature. Whereas the basic aspects of thermal macroscopic properties such as the length or correspondingly, the macroscopic volume, are relatively well known, the annihilation behavior of positron e+ or positronium, i.e., a bound system of positron and electron, Ps = (e+ ... e-), in dependence on temperature is a relatively novel technique allowing for deeper insight into the electron density distribution in condensed matter. dilatometry, amorphous and polycrystalline selenium
