eng Mesomorphic Properties of New Ferroelectric Liquid Crystals Containing Laterally Substituted Biphenyl Benzoate Core and Chiral 2-alkoxy Unit Ferroelectric liquid crystalline compounds containing laterally substituted biphenyl benzoate core and chiral 2-alkoxypropionate unit were synthesised and investigated. In this study we have chosen the fluorine as a lateral substituents on the aromatic ring of the alkoxybenzoate unit as it is known a favourable influence of the fluorine on mesomorphic properties of different mesogenic compounds. In addition, several bromo derivatives were also synthesised and characterised. For all studied substances, sequence of phases and phase transition temperatures were determined. All newly synthesised compounds shows the ferroelectric SmC* phase with high spontaneous polarisation in a wide temperature range. Finally, the mesomorphic and physical properties are compared with those for the unsubstituted substances and substances with lateral methoxy, methyl and chlorine substituents. liquid crystals;ferroelectric;mesomorphic properties
