eng Fall of a single spherical particle through viscoelastic fluids The flow of a Carreau model fluid around a spherical particle has been solved numerically in the creeping flow region. The numerical calculations were performed using COMSOL Multiphysics software package for steady non-Newtonian flows. The dependence of the drag force magnitude on Carreau model parameters and sphere-to-tube ratio was calculated and the values of the drag coefficient correction factor X and the wall correction factor FW were evaluated. The numerical results were compared with our new experimental data obtained for the fall of spherical particles through shear thinning inelastic and viscoelastic polymer solutions. sphere free fall;viscoelastic liquid;drag coefficient;wall correction factor
