eng Iron Complexes of Reactive Azo Dyes A set of reactive mordant azo dyes was prepd. by diazotization of arom. amines and their subsequent coupling reaction with secondary components. The reactive dyes thus formed contained 2-sulfatoethylsulfonyl (-SO2CH2CH2OSO3Na), N-methyl-N-carboxymethyl-2-aminoethylsulfonyl (-SO2CH2CH2NMeCH2CO2H) and 2,3-dibromopropionamidyl (-NHCOCHBrCH2Br) reactive groups capable of liberating reactive vinyl groups in the application dyebath. Neg.-ion electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, UV/visible spectroscopy, and elemental anal. confirmed the structure of the prepd. dyes. Dyed wool fabric samples (combination of acid and reactive dyeing conditions) were treated (mordanted) with iron salts (FeCl2, FeCl3) and a comparison chromium salt (CrF3). The iron mordant dyeing showed acceptable wash fastness and light fastness comparable with chromium complexed dyes Reactive mordant azo dyes
