eng Preparation of NASICON-type Titanium Phosphate Mg0.5Ti2(PO4)3 from Magnesium Borophosphate Glasses Preparation of the Mg0.5Ti2(PO4)3 NASICON-type material by controlled crystallisation of magnesium titanium borophosphate glasses of the composition 30MgO.20B2O3.xTiO2.(50−x)P2O5 (x=0-25 mol% TiO2) followed by subsequent acid leaching of crystalline products was studied. All prepared glasses crystallise under heating within the temperature range of 650-870°C and the surface nucleation is the prevailing process. The lowest tendency towards crystallisation has the glass with 5 mol% TiO2. X-ray diffraction measurements showed that major compounds formed by glass crystallisation were Mg(PO3)2, Mg2P2O7, TiP2O7, BPO4 and Mg0.5Ti2(PO4)3. Crystalline samples, prepared by heat treatment of the glasses at 900°C, were leached with 2 m HCl aqueous solution at room temperature. Changes in the XRD patterns of TiO2-containing crystalline samples revealed that hydrochloric acid selectively dissolves mostly Mg2P2O7. The maximum output of Mg0.5Ti2(PO4)3 with respect to the leachability of the other phases was found for the starting glass composition of 30MgO.20B2O3.20TiO2.30P2O5, where only Mg0.5Ti2(PO4)3 phase with the specific surface area of 10.7 m2 g−1 remained after the leaching.
