eng The behaviour of Bi2O3 in ternary phosphate glasses ZnO-Bi2O3-P2O5, BaO-Bi2O3-P2O5, and PbO-Bi2O3-P2O5 glasses were prepared and studied in compositional series 50MO-xBi2O3-(50-x)P2O5 and (50-y)MO-yBi2O3-50P2O5. Relatively large differences between ZnO- BaO- and PbO-based glasses were observed in their thermal behaviour. Structural studies by Raman spectroscopy revealed a gradual depolymerisation of phosphate network from metaphosphate (Q2) to diphosphate (Q1) units with increasing MO content. In the compositional series 50MO xBi2O3-(50-x)P2O5 structural changes are more pronounced than in the latter series and in the Bi2O3-rich ZnO-based glasses isolated PO4 units (Q0) were identified. The results of 31P MAS NMR spectra measurements are in a good agreement with the Raman spectra measurements. Phosphate, Glasses, Structure, Properties
