eng Sterility problems of batch biotransformation of glycerol to hydroxyacetone using immobilized Gluconobacter oxydans. Biotransformation of glycerol to dihydroxyacetone by bacteria strain Gluconobacter oxydans immobilized in the polyvinylalcohole gel was studied. Sterility requirements necessary for succesfull course of reaction were examined. Suitable purity and treatment of reactor and all initial reaction components (water, glycerol, yeast extract, air used for bacteria respiration and immobilized microorganisms) were found as necessary conditions against contamination. glycerol, dihydroxyacetone, Gluconobacter oxydans, sterility
