eng Chemical Engineering View of the Pulp Washing The theoretical description of pulp washers arranged in a countercurrent manner is usually based on a macroscopic model of the equipment. The concentrations in the outlet streams can be calculated knowing the wash liquor ratio, Norden efficiency factor, and concentrations in the inlet streams. For a better and more detailed description of the washing operation, a microscopic model has to be used. In displacement washing, the flow of the wash liquid through a pulp pad can be described by the dispersion flow model using one dimensionless parameter known as the Peclet number. The displacement washing is not a purely mechanical process, but diffusion of a solute from within fibres to wash liquid must be taken into account. pulp washing; washer performance parameters; displacement washing
