eng Combined Membrane Processes : Comparing of Dead-end and Cross-flow Modes This contribution deals with the study of process combining both cross-flow microfiltration and ionic exchange on zeolite A added to the feed stream. The experimental set-up for cross-flow microfiltration was used with ceramic tubular membrane, the next set of measurements was carried out with dead-end hollow fiber microfiltration unit. It was found, that the permeate flux reduction was not significant, if we used powdered zeolite as an additive in cross-flow microfiltration. In contrast to this fact, granulated zeolite tendency for irreversible membrane fouling was rather high at permeate fluxes above 40 L/m2.hr, even if backflushing was used. The preliminary batch experiments were performed for the sorptive kinetics and the sorptive capacity determination. From these measurements the parameters of Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms were determined. A theoretical model for dynamic sorptive process prediction was suggested and verified ranging from batch experiment results.
