eng Effect of UV Stabilizers Incorporated in Dispersants of Pigment Based Inkjet Inks on Light Fastness of Prints Printed substrate with ink layer can be affected by ultraviolet part of solar radiation and process called photodegradation can occur. Printing ink components are susceptible to this process. Photodegradation can be reduced by using UV stabilizers. Two types of stabilizers were used. First one was UV absorber (UVA) based on benzotriazole group, second type was free-radical scavenger known as hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) based on 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine group. Stabilizers were used in both copolymer and monomer form. The efficiency of UV stabilizers in various concentrations in pigment based inkjet ink was studied. Particle size distribution of pigment paste, thickness of ink layers and water liquor pH of used substrate were measured. Exposure by UV radiation was performed by medium pressure mercury vapor lamp. Color difference and optical density were used for evaluating of color changes. Stabilizer concentration, composition of dispersant and technique of stabilizer building in into ink were factors which affected the efficiency of UV stabilizers.
