U pacientů s pokročilým onemocněním koronárních tepen (n=91) a kontrolní skupiny pacientů bez jakékoliv stenozy (n=49) byly měřeny tyto parametry: plazmatický beta-karoten, alfa-tokoferol, malondialdehyd, volné radikály, interleukin-6, C-reaktivní protein a další rizikové faktory aterosklerozy. Rozdíly mezi skupinami byly hodnoceny pomocí Hotellingova T2-testu (software NCSS2000), analýzy korelační matice pomocí softwaru STATISTICA. Pokročilé onemocnění koronárních tepen bylo spojeno s významně nižšími hladinami HDL-cholesterolu, beta-karotenu a se zvýšenými koncentracemi zánětlivých markerů, ale pouze s mírně zvýšeným oxidačním stresem. Beta-karoten významně negativně koreloval s IL-6. Tato inverzní korelace naznačuje možný ochranný vliv beta-karotenu proti ateroskleroze způsobený inhibicí zánětlivých procesů.	beta-karoten;interleukin-6;ischemická choroba srdeční
eng	Inverse Correlation between Plasma Beta-Carotene and Interleukin-6 in Patients with Advanced Coronary Artery Disease	The interrelationships between plasma beta-carotene, alpha-tocopherol, and the level of systemic inflammation and oxidative stress were investigated in patients with advanced coronary artery disease (CAD). Plasma b-carotene, a-tocopherol, malondialdehyde, free radicals, interleukin-6, high sensitive C-reactive protein, and other risk factors of CAD were determined in a group of patients with advanced CAD (significant stenosis according to coronarographic examination; n=91) and control group of examined patients with coronary arteries with no stenosis (n=49). Between-group differences in continuous variables were analyzed with the Hotelling T2-test (software NCSS2000), analyses of correlation matrix with the software STATISTICA. Advanced CAD coincided with significantly lower plasma concentrations of HDL-cholesterol and b-carotene as well as with elevated levels of all inflammatory markers, but only with mild increase of oxidative stress. B-Carotene significantly inversely correlated with interleukin-6. This inverse correlation could suggest potential protective effect of b-carotene on atherosclerosis due to the inhibition of inflammatory processes.	Beta-Carotene;Interleukin-6;Atherosclerosis
