Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae strains, for which was detected resistance to certain antibiotic, were tested. Strains were cultivated from clinical material. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of compounds were determined by tube dilution and microdilution method in the Mueller-Hinton broth. Both substances were dissolved in this broth. Growth was characterised by turbidity content of the tube or by sediment. Results were analyzed after 24, 48 and 72 hours incubation at 37 °C visually. To confirm the growth was broth culture cultivated on blood agar. For Klebsiella pneumoniae strains was determined MIC of carvacrol in the range 150-1200 μg/ml. Thymol inhibited growth in quantity 75-1200 μg/ml. MIC of carvacrol for the Staphylococcus aureus strains was 150-600 μg/ml. For thymol was concentration determined on 37,5-600 μg/ml.
