eng	Optimization of Two-dimensional LC-MEKC Separations Employing Programmed Separation Conditions in Both Dimensions	Two-dimensional separation system combining liquid chromatography (LC) in the first dimension with micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) in the second dimension provides high orthogonality for separation of highly complex samples containing ionic and non-ionic compounds in a single run and is likely to provide narrow peaks and high peak capacity. Programmed separation conditions in both dimensions can further improve the sample resolution and peak capacity in comparison to the isocratic mode, but changing composition of mobile phase transferred from LC must be compensated by adjustment of the separation conditions in the second dimension, MEKC separation. The presence of organic solvent in transferred fractions may cause shifts in migration times in the second dimension MEKC separation, mainly by affecting the electroosmotic flow, partitioning equilibria of samples in the micelles and critical micellar concentration.
