eng X-SHAPED ORGANIC PUSH-PULL MOLECULES Organic push-pull low-molecular systems featuring intramolecular charge-transfer (ICT) constitute a very important class of organic materials due to their unique dipolar properties. These molecules have been recognized as tunable chromophores for nonlinear optics (NLO) and have found numerous applications in (opto)electronic and data storage devices, OLEDs and OPVCs. The most common arrangements of a heterocyclic D-p-A system include linear [1], branched [2], and Y-shaped chromophores [3,4]. We have recently reported on X-shaped donor 5,6 disubstituted pyrazine-2,3-dicarbonitriles 1 as a new class of NLO-phores [5]. In this report, an extension of the previous series of cross-conjugated molecules by donor 4,5-disubstituted benzene-1,2-dicarbonitriles 2 will be given (Scheme 1). The preparation of target chromophores 2 was accomplished in a four step synthesis. Firstly, 4,5-diiodobenzene-1,2-dicarbonitrile was prepared in a three step sequence. This compound proved to be very suitable precursor for the subsequent Suzuki-Miyaura and Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions with N,N-dimethylamino-substituted p-linkers of various shapes and lengths [6]. In this way, the target chromophores 2 with systematically extended and varied p-linker were prepared in a modular manner as two series of compounds a and b. benzen; chromofor ve tvaru písmene X; syntéza
