eng Intercalation chemistry of layered functionalized phosphonates of tetravalent metals. Layered zirconium organophosphonates functionalized with acidic groups represent an alternative to widely used clay minerals as host materials for intercalation reactions. Here, we report the preparation and characterization of a series of new intercalation compounds based on mixed zirconium 4 sulfophenylphosphonate organophosphonate as a host material. An interesting and unexpected feature of these compounds is their ability to incorporate mineral acids in their interlayer space, for instance phosphoric acid. metal phosphonate; layered phosphates; intercalation
