eng Zirconium sulfophenylphosphonate intercalated with mineral acids. A new layered phosphonate in which a mineral acid is intercalated in the interlayer space was prepared by reaction of zirconium 4-sulfophenylphosphonate (Zr(HO3SC6H4PO3)2•2H2O) with phosphoric acid. This compound has formula Zr(HO3SC6H4PO3)2•xH3PO4•yH2O (x = 3-5; y = 1.5-2) and it is the first example of mineral acid intercalation into metal phosphonates with acidic (sulfonic, in this case) functional groups. intercalation; zirconium sulphophenylphosphonate; protonic conductivity
