eng Nitrates ratio optimization in inorganic phase of W/O type emulsion explosive Methylnitrate (MeN) as the simplest ester of nitric acid attracted attention of the explosives experts since its making. In spite of the fact that its chemical stability stands comparison with industrially produced nitroesters (nitroglycerine, ethylenglycol dinitrate) and also its explosive parameters are high, for its high volatility and low boiling temperature MeN finds no industrial use at present. It can be, however, used as the so called home-made explosive. It is often referred to MeN on the number of extremist websites, dealing with illegal production of explosives. Under common conditions methylnitrate is a colourless liquid, partially soluble in water (3 g/100 g at 18°C), well soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone or ether. In the form of mixture MeN - methanol it was used during WW II under denomination Myrol. Methylnitrate; improvised explosive
