eng Modification of the classic aquatic OECD tests for testing of metallic nanomaterials The aim of our work was the modification of Short term Toxicity Test on Fish Embryo and Sac fry Stages (OECD guideline 212) for purposes of nanomaterial testing. The proposed modification was supposed to suppress the influence of nanoparticle agglomeration on test results. For each tested concentration of nanoparticles, the specifi c frequency of liquid media changing was used during the semistatic test to maintain the same maximal agglomerate size in all experimental colloids. The results of the modified test were compared to those obtained using static (without media changing) and classical semistatic approach (changing media every 24 h for all concentrations). Optimization of liquid media parameters with respect to the test organism life demands and nanoparticle behavior was performed as well. The described modification of the test procedure allows us to obtain monotonic dose-response curves, which are not affected by different agglomeration rate in colloids with different concentration of tested nanoparticles. ecotoxicity; aquatic organisms; Agglomeration; nanosilver
