eng Impact of the Natural Effects to the Distribution of the Agglomerated Silver Nanoparticles in Liquid Media for Ecotoxicology Tests he toxicity of nanoparticles for aquatic organisms is strongly affected by features of particles (mean size and size distribution, shape, bulk and surface composition, surface charge,?) and by parameters of water environment (pH, ionic strength, presence of surfactants and dissolved organic matter). Agglomeration of nanoparticles strongly affects their characteristics and then way of their interaction with organisms. Behavior of nanoparticles in liquid media has to be taken into consideration during the design of eco-toxicity tests. This study is focused on the time resolved description of the agglomeration process of the 40 nm silver nanoparticles in the liquid media prescribed by OECD guideline 203. The process is examined from point of view rate and level of agglomeration, proportion of single particles and diameter of the agglomerates. These values are assigned employing mainly UV-Vis spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The time dependent mean hydrodynamic diameters of the silver nanoparticles and their agglomerates were depicted by the first order kinetics? equation applying non-linear regression. The effect of naturally occurred influences on the agglomeration process was tested: - concentration of the silver nanoparticles (5-100 ?M) ? strong increase of the rate and agglomeration level; - illumination conditions (polychromatic/blue/red photons) ? mild effect; - the stream and stirring (approximation of the process in the pond/river/mountain brook) ? strong effect; - the temperature (+5 to 30°C) ? minimal effect to the process. In selected points the dissolution of the AgNP to the Ag+ ion was estimated by ICP-OES and eco-toxicity of the mixture of single and agglomerates of AgNP was determined to prove our physico-chemical results with real fish embryo.
