eng Metal Complexes of Modified N-Heterocyclic Carbenes For nearly 30 years, since the publication of the pioneering works of Öfele [1] and Wanzlick [2] in the late 60?s, N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHC) were considered as chemical curiosities The amazing turning point in the chemistry of NHC was Arduengo?s work ?A Stable Crystalline Carbene? [3] of 1991. Since then, NHC have literally burst onto the chemical scene and have become one of the most studied compounds of contemporary chemistry [4,5]. The main reason for that are their excellent bonding properties which are comparable (or even better!) with the well established phosphines and cyclopentadienyls. Besides that, NHC and their complexes with various metals have recently been thoroughly studied as catalysts in synthetic organic chemistry [6,7]. The presented work deals with the synthesis of hybrid NHC ligands with different adjacent groups (Scheme 1) and their subsequent complexation with various transition metals. Special attention was paid to the palladium complexes which were tested as catalysts in coupling reactions. Metal Complexes; Modified N-Heterocyclic Carbenes
