eng Main group metal complexes containing (hybrid) amidinate and guanidinate ligands Easy procedures to get metal amidinates and guanidinates, of general formulae depicted in Scheme 1A, B, led to the real renaissance of the chemistry after almost forty years. They can be prepared from the cumulated systems as carbodiimides and alkaline or alkaline earth metal compounds. They became frequently studied compounds, in the present time, mainly because possible tuning of steric as well as electronic properties. The use of a transition or rare-earth metals containing species as catalysts of various processes is known.[1] Nowadays, the main interest is focused on the complexation and stabilization of unusual, generally lower, oxidation states of metals. The current topic in this chemistry is the synthesis, structural studies and reactivity with pointing towards preparation of reduced silicon, germanium and tin species. This particular topic is mainly followed by Roesky, Stalke, Driess, Jones and others. Our major achievement here is the incorporation of an adjacent hemilabile coordinating group to the skeleton (to the nitrogen atom or central carbon atom) of parent amidinates or guanidinates (Scheme 1C, D ? hybrid ligands) in order to 'fish out' instable metal fragments from the solution and use them for further reactivity with small molecules.
