eng ENANTIOSELECTIVE HYDROGENATION OF ETHYL PYRUVATE ON Pt SUPPORTED ON USY ZEOLITE AND MCM41: OPTIMIZATION OF THE PROCESS THROUGH FACTORIAL DESIGN In the present study, several Pt systems supported on ordered porous materials (USY zeolite and MCM-41) were synthesized through the impregnation method at a Pt nominal content of 5% by weight from two different Pt precursors: chloroplatinic acid and acetyl acetonate. The solids were then tested for selective hydrogenation of ethyl pyruvate to ethyl lactate at atmospheric pressure, using different solvents and cinchonidine as the chiral modifier at a Pt:modifier:substrate molar ratio of 1:1.3:706. This first screening prompted us to select acetic acid as the solvent and Pt/USY780 as the catalyst for subsequent studies since it was the system exhibiting the highest enantiomeric excess. enantioselection; hydrogenation; catalyst; zeolite; Pt
