Push-pull chromophores are currently used as well-known and traditional materials in many areas of optoelectronics and telecommunications technologies. A D--A chromophore possesses an electron donor group connected via a π-linker to an electron acceptor. This arrangement enables efficient D-A interaction and intramolecular charge transfer. The ICT is primarily responsible for the generation of new low-energy molecular orbital with facile electron excitation in the visible range of the spectrum (HOMOLUMO). Hence, push-pull molecules are highly polarized and possess unique linear (LO) and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties and found widespread applications as TPA probes, OLEDs, organic semiconductors (OFETs) etc. As a continuation of our research interest in novel push-pull molecules,this study focuses on the synthesis and elucidation of the structure-property relationships in push pull systems with systematically altered -conjugated section, acceptor unit(s) and the degree of branching (linear via quadropolar to tripodale structures). Whereas variously substituted amino groups were used as electron donors, acceptor unit is represented either by N,N´-dibutylbarbituric acid or malondinitrile. This systematic study involves 24 model push-pull molecules.
