cze Transition metal complexes stabilized by functionalized N-heterocyclic carbenes. Even though the pioneering works of Öfele and Wanzlick were published in the late 1960s, the real turning point in the chemistry of N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHC) came almost thirty years after with the synthesis of a stable free carbene by Arduengo in 1991. NHC complexes have become one of the most studied species in the field of modern chemistry. The biggest advantage of NHC ligands is their exceptional bonding abilities which surpasses widespreadly used phosphino- and cyclopentadienyl ligands. These compound can act as promising catalyst as well. Novel triazole NHC ligands and their transition metal complexes will be introduced. Both structure and catalytic activity of these species was studied. Theoretical calculations were carried out in order to describe the bonding situation in these complexes.
