eng Glass-forming ability, structure and physical properties of ZnO-In2O3-P2O5 glasses In this contribution glasses in the ternary system ZnO–In2O3–P2O5 were studied. The glass-forming region of ZnO–In2O3-P2O5 system has been determined. Glasses obtaining up to 20 mol% of In2O3 were prepared by slow cooling of the melt in air. The preparation of glasses with the highest In2O3 content has to be carried out at relatively high temperatures (1400°C) du to a high melting point of In2O3. Structure and properties of the glasses were studied in several compositional series. Basic characteristic parameters of the prepared glasses (density, molar volume, chemical durability) were determined. Structural studies were carried out with the application of Raman and 31P NMR spectroscopies. For thermal studies the methods of differential thermal analysis (DTA), heating microscopy and dilatometry were applied. Crystalline phases obtained by annealing powder glassy samples were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Glass transition temperature (Tg) increases with increasing indium oxide content. Chemical durability of the studied glasses increases also with increasing In2O3 content. NMR spectra of the glasses show that the replacement of ZnO by In2O3 in (50-x)ZnO-50P2O5-xIn2O3 glasses results in the depolymerization of metaphosphate chains and the gradual transformation of Q2 units into Q1 units. zinc phosphate glasses; In2O3; structure; properties
