cze Lipidomic differentiation of breast cancer tissues and surrounding normal tissues using HILIC-HPLC/ESI-MS Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor in women population and one of the most common causes of cancer death. The lipid metabolism plays an important role in the oxidative stress and is associated with factors linked to the breast cancer risk including the hormonal balance, body mass index, breast density, drug metabolism, growth of insulin levels, etc. The coupling of high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (HPLC/MS) is the most frequently used technique for highly sensitive and selective lipidomic characterization with the possibility to identify and quantify complex mixtures of lipids. The main challenge in the lipidomic studies of biological samples is the statistical evaluation of complex data sets.
