eng Continuous comprehensive 2D LC/ESI-MS lipidomic analysis of complex biological samples Lipids have numerous important functions in cells, tissues and body fluids, such as the formation of lipid bilayers, cell signaling, and energy storage. Their interaction with surrounding cells has a crucial role in living organisms. Lipidomics is a subset of metabolomics, which contributes to the understanding how lipids work in a biological system (cellular physiology and pathology). One-dimensional separation may not be sufficient for complex lipidomic mixtures. Therefore two-dimensional liquid chromatography with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (2D LC/ESI-MS) can be used to increase the number of compounds separated and quantitated in a single run. Our work is focused on the development of a new continuous comprehensive 2D LC/ESI-MS method for the lipidomic characterization of complex biological samples
