eng Indane-1,3-dione Derived (D-π-)2A-π-D Push-Pull Molecules with T-shaped Arrangement Sixteen model (D-π)2-A-π-D molecules having extraordinary T-shaped arrangement were designed and synthesized. Indane-1,3-dione has been employed as a central acceptor with electron donors linked at the C2, C4 and C7 positions. These push-pull molecules represent a first systematic modification of indane-1,3-dione fused benzene ring. Structure and properties of all target molecules were investigated by X-ray analysis, electrochemistry, UV/Vis absorption spectra, differential scanning calorimetry and EFISH experiment and were completed with the DFT calculations. Thorough evaluation of all gathered data has been carried out and structure-property relationships were further evaluated. It turned out that electron donors attached at the C2 position, via a π-system of various lengths, affect the studied properties most significantly. The side donors at C4 and C7 can be described as auxiliary and do not dominate the observed properties. However, thiophene proved to be more efficient donor than N,N-dimethylanilino in this respect. Hence, indane-1,3-dione bearing piperidylthiophene donor connected via propenylidene spacer at the C2 completed with two side thiophen-2-ylethynyl branches at C4 and C7 showed the highest figure of merit among the studied properties.
