eng Transeterification of Rapeseed Oil with Buthanol The paper describes the use of butanol for the transesterification of rapeseed oil under potassium hydroxide as a catalyst. The effect of the chosen reaction conditions (independent variables: the reaction temperature and time, the amount of catalyst, the molar ratio of butanol to oil and the method of oil addition to butanol) on the butanolysis process was studied. The statistical models describing the dependency of glycerides (dependent variables) on independent variables were created. The measured data was analysed by multi-linear regression with the help of many statistical tests (significance of parameters, exclusion of outliers etc.). Two ways of separation were carried out: with and without the addition of a small amount of water to the reaction mixture after reaction and butanol removal. The separation with water sped up the sedimentation rate and decreased the content of potassium (10 times) and the free glycerol (4 times) in the ester phase in comparison with the separation without water. transesterification; rapeseed oil; butanol; KOH
