To study solid materials under such severe conditions variety of methods has been developed. Among the more popular ones are velocimetry systems. These are used to determine surface velocities of solids loaded from opposite side by detonating explosive. The goal of this work is to present some of our experience gained during development and testing of photonic Doppler velocimeter (PDV) and its application in characterization of energetic and inert materials.
