eng Layered phosphonates of tetravalent metals bearing sulfo group and their protonic conductivity. Layered titanium 4 sulfophenylphosphonate (TiSPP) was prepared by reaction of titani-um(IV) tetraisopropoxide with corresponding 4 sulfophenylphosphonic acid and a subse-quent hydrothermal treatment at 180 °C for 60 hours. The compound prepared was characterized by EDX, elemental analysis, TGA and powder X-ray diffraction. The proton conductivity of TiSPP was determined at room temperature as a function of relative humidity (RH) in the range of 43-90% RH and as a function of temperature between -10 and 40°C, at RH = 30%. Conductivity of TiSPP will be compared with conductivities of other sulfo organophosphonates of tetravalent metals, namely those of Sn and Zr, with the phosphonate ligands having different organic skeletons. phosphonates; layered materials; protonic conductivity
