eng Activity and stability of Mg-Al and Zn-Al mixed oxides in biofuels preparation We focused on the comparison of the catalytic behavior of Zn-Al and Mg-Al mixed oxides and the influence of Zn-Al and Mg-Al molar ratio on the conversion of oil and furfural [2]. It was found, that the conversion of furfural decreased with increasing the Mg-Al molar ration, however the conversion of oil increased with increasing of Mg-Al molar ration. The same results have been observed in Zn-Al mixed oxides. The Mg/Al or Zn/Al molar ratio has influence on the distribution of type of basic sites (weak, medium and strong). The amount of strong basic sites is higher for higher Mg/Al or Zn/Al molar ratios. During the aldol condensation the furfural acids are formed, which adsorbed on strong basic sites and they are deactivated. It can be one of the reason the differences in influence of Mg/Al or Zn/Al molar ratio on the conversion of furfural in aldol condensation and oil in transesterification. catalytic activity;; Mg-Al; Zn-Al; mixed oxides; biofuels
