eng Heterocyclic push-pull chromophores in photoredox catalysis We have developed efficient photocatalyst based on 4,5-disubstituted pyrazine-2,3-dicarbonitrile. This photocatalyst showed to be marvelously efficient in cross-dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) of N-aryl-tetrahydroisoquinolines and nitroalkanes. These encouraging results prompted us to perform further structural modifications and property tuning of this successful catalyst in order to utilize the entire visible region of the spectrum and to minimize the HOMO/LUMO gap. Structural tuning has been achieved by variation of the acceptor part (pyrazine- vs. pyridine(di)carbonitriles) as well as the nature of the appended electron donor (OMe vs. SMe). The length and constitution of the pi-system (2,5-thienylene and additional acetylenic spacer) were also modified. displays.
