eng INVESTIGATION OF THE AUTOXIDATION PROCESS BY TIME-RESOLVED INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY Time-resolved infrared spectroscopy enables to follow the structure changes of the alkyd resin during the autoxidation process. Developments of OH stretching and CH stretching bands are shown in Figure 1. Band at 3008 cm–1, assigned to na(cis-CH=CH), is proportional to content of isolated double bonds. Its decrease in intensity follows peroxidation of fatty acid chains that is an initial stage of the autoxidation process. Appearing hydroperoxides gives OH stretching band that was observed at 3400 cm–1 The 2D-analysis, made on series of the spectra, brought further insight into mechanism of autoxidation. Such approach enabled to assign bands related to b-scission reactions and verify that the autoxidation process is initiated with decomposition of small amount of hydroperoxides. alkyd; infrared spectroscopy; autooxidation
