eng Burning behaviour with respect to initial grain temperature: Stojan Vessel in comparison with subscale rocket motor The initial propellant grain temperature of solid propellants is one of the most important factors that directly affect the burning rate of the rocket motor. It can also influence the initiation and ignition of the roket motor. Practical investigation of the impact of initial grain temperature on ballistic properties of extruded double base propellant has been carried out. Burning rate of two double base propellant compositions was measured in both clossed vessel and subscale rocket motor. The propellant burning rate was measured as a function of pressure and initial temperature. Results obtained from constant volume clossed vessel are confirmed by comparing with burning rate measurements using traditional subscale rocket motor. Measurements of burning rate were performed at different initial grain temperatures. Temperature variation was from – 60 C to + 60 C for subscale rocket motor and form -20 C to + 40 C for clossed vessel. Heating and cooling processes of propellants to desired temperatures were performed in controlled devices for twenty four hours before testing. It is concluded that the ignitability, the burning rate and operating pressure increase with increasing the initial grain temperature while the time needed for ignition process and action time were shortened.
