eng Biodiesel: The influence of various conditions on the solubility of esters in glycerol phase This work is focused on the study of esters loss in the glycerol phase through separation process. The methyl esters were prepared by commonly used homogenous alkali catalyst KOH and methanol. The catalyst was neutralized by phosphoric acid, which had to be added accurately so that only methoxide ions (catalyst), remaining after the reaction, were neutralized. Four independent variables were chosen and the factorial design was compiled. The esters content in the GP was measured by HPLC, which enabled to determine methyl esters of each higher fatty acids such as oleic, linoleic, palmitic. In glycerol phase, the content of glycerol and other important impurities such as soap, phosphate, methanol and water were also determined. The relation between solubility of esters in glycerol phase and independent variables was evaluated by linear regression in statistic program QC-Expert. The results of ester loss were compared with ester loss for other alcohols (ethanol and butanol). solubility; glycerol phase; biodiesel; separation
