eng Diazine as building-blocks for the synthesis of nonlinear optical chromophores Diazines are -deficient six-membered heterocycles with two nitrogen atoms. Depending on the position of the nitrogen atoms, pyridazine (1,2-diazine), pyrimidine (1,3-diazine) and pyrazine (1,4-diazine) can be distinguished. The diazinyl fragments can be used as electron-withdrawing part in push-pull structures. During the past decade we have developed more than 250 diazine-based chromophores for their luminescence and nonlinear optical properties. In particular, in collaboration between our two groups we have designed a series of octupolar molecules with central triphenylamine core and peripheral diazine groups (Figure 1). These compounds exhibit impressive emission solvatochromism and two photon absorption properties. Diazine fragments have been also tested as -linker in dipolar second order NLO chromophores and the influence of these fragments on the polarizability was compared to 1,4-phenylene and 2,5-thienylene linkers. A cotutelle thesis between our two group concerning pyrimidine chromophores is also in progress Diazines; nonlinear optical chromophores
