eng	Investigation of Copper incorporation into CdS thin films and its influence on optical properties	Cadmium sulfide is one of the most attractive thin film materials due to its unique structural, electronic, and optical properties suitable for many applications, including light emitting diodes (LEDs), solar cells and thin film transistors [1]. Doping of nanocrystals is one of the ways of controlled formation of the photoluminescence spectrum in the desired spectral range. In recent years, numerous studies have been carried out on the incorporation of transition metal ions in QDs. Mn2+, Co2+, Cu2+, Fe2+ ions have become widely used as doping agents [2]. The aim of current work is to obtain Cu-doped CdS QDs thin films by using a facile method of preparation. CdS QDs have been prepared through a modified and improved synthetic method presented earlier by our group [3] using sulfur dissolved in 1-octadecene (S/ODE), tributylphosphine sulfide (S-TBP) or trioctylphosphine sulfide (S-TOP) as a sulfur sources. The different chemical nature of sulfur precursors could lead to the formation of the wide range of particle size (3–8 nm) which was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). Thin films have been deposited on glass substrates by a spin-coating technique. Copper acetate in various concentrations was added to the freshly prepared CdS QDs solutions immediately before the spin-coating. To investigate a migration behaviour of copper ions, samples were annealed at different temperatures. A presence of copper in CdS QDs thin films was confirmed by EDX. The influence of copper concentration on optical properties of the CdS semiconductor nanoparticles has been studied by UV-VIS and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The incorporation of Cu ions made it possible to obtain CdS QDs with luminescence in the long-wavelength region of the spectrum.	quantum dots; cadmium chalcogenides; copper ions; photoluminescence; optical properties; thin films; doping
