Doped diamond electrodes were introduced in the early 1980s [1]. For their electroanalytical utilization, boron is the most often used as a doping element [2]. In this study, physical, chemical, and electrochemical properties of lab-made boron-doped diamond electrodes (BDDEs), prepared by hot filaments chemical vapor deposition under the different conditions, have been investigated. The boron/carbon (B/C) ratio in the gas phase varied in the range from 1000 to 20000 ppm and the content of CH4 in H2 was 1 %. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy were used for characterization of BDD films. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) of the redox systems [Fe(CN)6]4−/3− and [Ru(NH3)6]3+/2+ were used for an electrochemical characterization of the investigated electrodes. Various parameters like width of the potential window, reversibility of the electrode reaction, electrochemically active surface, and the apparent electron transfer rate constant (k0app), respectively, were calculated. The target of this work, besides the electrochemical characterization of the lab-made BDDEs, was examination and assessment of their analytical utilization for pharmaceutical analysis. The voltammetric methods for determination of three commonly used drugs were developed using commercially available BDDE [3-5] and new procedures were subsequently applied for determination of these pharmaceuticals with the tested lab-made BDDEs. The subjects of this study were follows: leucovorin used in treatment of cancer in combination with chemotherapeutic drugs, mesalazine used in the management of inflammatory bowel disease, and muscle relaxant dantrolen applied in the treatment of malignant hyperthermia. Statistical parameters like linear dynamic range (LDR), limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), and relative standard deviation of 11 repeated measurements (RSD11) were calculated for each tested electrode and were compared.
