eng Effect of microplastics on the toxicity of metal oxide nanoparticles to the potworm studied in agar-based exposure medium Complexity of soil matrix and methodological artifacts occurring during testing of nanomaterials are the main reasons why ecotoxicological experiments performed in soil matrices provide variable and poorly comparable results. Our study was focused on testing procedure which is not distorted due to this phenomenon. Agar-based exposure medium enables suppression of dynamic processes during the test (e.g. agglomeration, dissolution, sedimentation), easy characterization of particles physicochemical status directly in prepared exposure medium and opportunity to test the effect of contaminants with or without their interactions with soil constituents under well-defined conditions. Microplastic particles can act as transport carriers and enhance the harmful effects of soluble toxicants and nanoparticles. Therefore, we studied the influence of polystyrene microplastics on the toxicity of zinc oxide nanoparticles to the soil annelid Enchytraeus crypticus. microplastic; ecotoxicity; agar; Enchytraeus crypticus; polystyrene
