eng Cu Based Catalyst for Selective Hydrogenolysis of Glycerol To 1,2-propanediol In this study, impregnated CuFe, CuZn catalysts were prepared and verified as being effective in the selective dehydroxylation of glycerol with high selectivity to 1,2-propanediol. These catalysts were prepared by the incipient wetness impregnation method by which γ-alumina was impregnated with the water solution of Cu and Fe or Zn nitrates, followed by drying at 65 °C and calcination at 600 °C. The nitrates were converted to oxides by calcination. The catalysts prepared were characterized by X Ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analyses, nitrogen physisorption, mercury porosimetry and temperature-programmed reduction. The catalysts performance was tested in a batch stirred reactor. In the glycerol hydrogenolysis, the supported catalysts were highly selective to 1,2-propanediol though less active than bulk catalysts with approximately the same amount of Cu. catalyst; Cu; hydrogenolysis; glycerol; propanediol
